OUR STORY

PEPPI HENDRIX

In 2004, the late Peppi Hendrix established the South Florida Gospel Music Awards (SFGMA) to honor the dedicated gospel musicians who serve as the unsung heroes of the music industry. Under his leadership, the SFGMA became a must-attend annual ceremony, connecting emerging artists with industry veterans.

LYNN J BROWN

Following Peppi Hendrix's passing in 2018, Lynn Brown — then President of the Broward Alliance of Gospel Music Professionals — stepped up to carry the legacy forward. In 2019 the ceremony reached unprecedented heights. After a pandemic pause, Lynn rebranded the event as the South Florida Indie Awards in 2020–2021, and in 2022, recognizing Florida's broader untold history across music, film, theater, and literature, renamed it the Florida Cultural Arts & Music Hall of Fame — with plans for a dedicated museum..
